The Albatross
Stand Up and Fight
The Madeleine Haze started in 2006 as the acoustic solo project of vocalist/guitarist Zack Goebbel. Inspired by Marcel Proust’s epic novel In Search Of Lost Time, where the random taste of a madeleine cake brought on a sudden rush of emotions and memories, Goebbel set forth to create music that would resonate with the listener on an emotional level. Drummer Ben Carter and bassist Jeff Hockaday were brought in to complete the line-up near the end of 2008 and the band released their debut CD In Search Of Lost Time.
Sold out performances as headliners and with Fixer, Bulletboys and Broken Teeth followed and the band developed a solid, devoted fanbase around the country. However, it was in March 2009 that everything changed…
During a headlining performance in North Carolina, Goebbel made a brief non-partisan statement criticizing the United States government, before local police forced the immediate end of their set and escorted the band out of town. This led to appearances on the popular political talk radio programs The Infowarrior and What Really Happened, and an influx of dedicated and energized fans who anointed the band leaders in the fight to protect the First Amendment.
A crash course in government corruption followed, which has drastically altered the sound and purpose of the band. Gone are the acoustic guitars and introspective lyrics of the bands debut, and in their place is a dark world view and an angry Grunge/Prog-Metal hybrid complete with blazing guitar solos and bitter protest anthems.
Recently, the band was selected to perform at the kickoff concert for the Real Change And Transparency Conference on September 11th, 2009 in New York City. This event will bring together concerned citizens from all over the country to speak out against government corruption and Wall Street bail-outs.
In August, the band will release A More Perfect Union, a 4-song EP of the music that has caused so much excitement and controversy. The first single, “The Complex Dropped The Towers” will be released to radio in July. In addition, a US Tour is being planned for September that will lead a caravan of fans to the New York performance.
Quickly becoming one of the most talked about bands in rock music, The Madeleine Haze is on a mission…with a payload of intense, radio-friendly anthems as their greatest weapon
“The Madeleine Haze is on the cutting edge of music that matters, not just another pop message with corporate sponsors.”
